Description
Planetes de Nin Carinyena Blanca Reserva is a barrel-aged white from the D.O.Q. Priorat, made by Ester Nin at the biodynamic Nin Ortiz winery she founded in 2008 with the farmer Carles Ortiz after time spent at Clos Erasmus. It is built on Cariñena Blanca, a rare white grape well suited to Priorat's slate soils, the llicorella that reflects heat, drives roots deep and gives the region's whites a firm saline minerality. The vineyards are farmed biodynamically, and the wine takes Reserva ageing in wood, where slow oxygen exchange through the barrel builds texture and complexity while softening the acidity. Extended lees contact adds a further waxy, savoury dimension without heavy oak flavour, so the fruit and the site remain in front. It pours deep straw and shows pear, ripe citrus and almond over a stony, earthy base, with a faint beeswax note and a whisper of vanilla from the barrel. The palate is dry, textured and mineral, the wood ageing giving weight and grip through a long, saline finish. Serve at 11 to 13 degrees in a full white glass.

Additional information
Its texture and mineral length suit richer white fish and meaty fish such as monkfish or hake in a sauce. Also good with roast chicken and pork, and with hard nutty cheeses like aged Manchego or Comté.
