Pinord makes Pinord 7 in Priorat from Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Garnacha grown on terraced slopes at Finca Mas Blanc under organic and biodynamic farming. Aged 14 months in French oak, it shows dark plum, pepper and a smoky mineral edge.
Description
Pinord 7 is a red from D.O.Q. Priorat, made by Pinord from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnacha and Syrah. The grapes come solely from Finca Mas Blanc, an estate of terraced vineyards on steep slopes between the villages of Bellmunt and Falset, farmed by hand using organic and biodynamic methods. Priorat is defined by its llicorella, a dark slate and quartz soil that forces the roots deep for water and gives the wine its mineral, smoky character, while the warm climate and low yields concentrate the fruit. Each variety is picked at its own optimum ripeness and fermented separately. The wine is aged 14 months in French oak, where slow oxygen exchange rounds the tannins and adds measured spice, followed by 12 months in bottle that integrates the structure. It is deep ruby, with dark plum and black fruit over black pepper, liquorice, smoke, a stony, earthy depth and a frame of vanilla and oak. The palate is full and firm, with grippy tannins, fresh acidity and a long mineral finish typical of the region. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees, decanted an hour ahead, with roast lamb or grilled beef.
