Description
Pinna Fidelis was founded in 2001 at Peñafiel, on the Duero, and works 200 hectares across the Ribera del Duero and Rueda zones. This is a young, single-variety Verdejo made in the D.O. Rueda from its own and neighbouring vineyards. Rueda sits on a high plateau with poor, stony soils and a wide day-to-night temperature swing, and it is that cold-night ripening that keeps Verdejo's acidity firm and its herbal, aniseed-tinged character intact. The wine is fermented and held in stainless steel with no oak, a method that preserves the grape's bright aromatics and its faint bitter twist on the finish, a Verdejo signature. It shows a clean, youthful colour and a nose of exotic fruit and citrus over white flowers and freshly cut grass. The palate is dry and crisp, with green apple, white peach and citrus peel above a herbal, gently pithy close. Serve chilled at 8 to 10 degrees in a white glass.
