Pinna Fidelis Roble is a youthful Ribera del Duero from Tinta del Pais grown on limestone soils. Just four months in American oak keep it fresh and red-fruited, with strawberry, raspberry and redcurrant lifted by a light spicy edge.
Description
Pinna Fidelis Roble is a young red from Pinna Fidelis, a modern winery founded in 2001 in Penafiel at the centre of Ribera del Duero. It is made from Tinta del Pais, the local name for Tempranillo and the star grape across the bodega range. The fruit comes from the winery own vines, over thirty years old and planted on limestone soils that drain well and bring freshness and a firm mineral spine. The continental climate of the high Duero plateau, with hot days and cold nights, keeps acidity bright and fixes deep colour in the skins. Oak handling is deliberately light, just four months in American oak barrels, enough to round the edges and add a touch of vanilla and sweet spice without covering the fruit. The result is a youthful, vibrant style built for early drinking. The colour is bright cherry red. The nose leads with red berries, strawberry, raspberry and redcurrant, lifted by a floral note and a whisper of pepper. The palate is fresh and juicy, with soft tannins and a clean finish. Serve lightly cool, at 14 to 16 degrees. It is an easygoing match for grilled pork and roast chicken.
