Pinna Fidelis makes this Reserva in Ribera del Duero from Tinta del País grown where the Duero and Duratón rivers meet. Eighteen months in French oak give a powerful, structured red of ripe black fruit, cocoa and spice.
Description
Pinna Fidelis was founded in 2001 at Peñafiel in Ribera del Duero and farms 200 hectares planted largely with Tinta del País, the local name for Tempranillo. This Reserva is drawn from vineyards at the confluence of the Duero and Duratón rivers, where the high, continental plateau brings hot days and cold nights that build colour, tannin and aromatic depth while preserving acidity. The wine ages eighteen months in French oak barrels, where the slow ingress of oxygen through the wood softens the firm tannins of Tinta del País and adds layers of vanilla, cocoa and spice, while extended ageing brings the savoury, developed character expected of a Reserva. At 15 per cent alcohol it is a generous, full-bodied style. The colour is deep cherry red with a maturing rim. The nose shows ripe plum and blackberry over dark chocolate, tobacco and liquorice. The palate is powerful and structured, with ripe, grippy tannins, fresh acidity and a long, spiced finish. Serve at 17 degrees, decanted for an hour. It is built for roast and grilled red meats and game.
