Description
Pimm's No. 1 is a gin based fruit cup created in London, where James Pimm served the original from his oyster bar in the 1840s as a house digestive cup. Bottled at 25%, it blends gin with fruit, herbs, spices and caramelised orange into a dark, bittersweet liqueur made to be mixed rather than drunk neat.
The nose is herbal and citrus with a bitter edge, the palate bitter, spiced and gently sweet with herbs and orange. It exists to build one drink above all, the Pimm's Cup, lengthened with chilled lemonade over ice and crowded with cucumber, mint, orange and strawberry, the long drink of the English summer and of Wimbledon. It also takes to ginger ale or Prosecco, and a jug scales effortlessly for service.
