Description
Pierre Morey founded his domaine in Meursault in 1973 and later managed the celebrated Domaine Leflaive, and the family now works eleven hectares across the Cote d'Or by biodynamic methods. This red comes from the Les Durots vineyard and is made from Pinot Noir grown on the limestone and clay soils that define the region. Meursault is better known for white wine, but its calcareous ground and cool continental climate suit Pinot Noir well, giving bright acidity, a fine savoury structure and clear red fruit. Biodynamic farming keeps yields low and the vines in balance. Fermentation is followed by ageing in French oak, which softens the tannin and adds a subtle spiced frame through slow oxygen exchange, while malolactic fermentation in barrel rounds the acidity and adds texture. The colour is bright, pale ruby. The nose shows red cherry and raspberry over earth and a touch of oak spice. The palate is medium bodied and elegant, with fine, silky tannin, fresh acidity and a savoury finish. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees. It suits roast poultry, duck and mushroom dishes.
