Description
Pierre Morey is a Meursault grower who ran the vineyards at the renowned Domaine Leflaive before building his own estate of about eleven hectares in Burgundy, worked biodynamically with his daughter. This regional Bourgogne Côte d'Or is his red, made from Pinot Noir grown on limestone and clay soils on the Côte-d'Or slope. The poor, well-drained ground gives low yields and the fine acidity and perfume typical of Burgundian Pinot, while the cool continental climate and biodynamic farming aim for clear, expressive fruit. After fermentation the wine ages in oak barrels, where slow oxygen exchange softens the tannin and adds a light spice and savoury depth while keeping the fruit fresh and to the fore. The colour is a bright, light garnet. The nose shows red cherry and wild berries over dried rose, earth and a touch of oak. The palate is light to medium bodied and fresh, with high acidity, fine silky tannin, a peppery herbal note and a clean, earthy finish. Serve lightly cool at 14 to 16 degrees. It suits roast poultry, game birds and mushroom dishes.
