Description
The Azienda Agricola Piero Gatti sits on the Moncucco hill at Santo Stefano Belbo in Piedmont, an area long associated with aromatic Muscat and Brachetto. This pale rosé is made from Brachetto, a grape prized for its intensely floral, perfumed character. The vineyards lie on the marl and limestone slopes of the Langhe, where altitude and cool nights preserve the grape's natural aromatics and bright acidity. Vinification is kept simple and protective: cool fermentation in stainless steel halted to retain a low alcohol of 5.5 percent and a light spritz, with no oak so the fruit and floral notes stay clean and lifted. The wine pours a pale, delicate pink. The nose is fragrant with rose petal, wild strawberry, cherry and elderflower, a signature of Brachetto from this corner of Piedmont. The palate is light, gently frizzante and fresh, the red berry and white peach fruit framed by crisp acidity that keeps it from feeling heavy. It finishes clean and floral. Serve well chilled at 6 to 8 degrees.
