Description
Valdesil sits in inner Galicia at Vilamartín de Valdeorras and is one of the leading names for Godello, the native white grape of Valdeorras. Pezas da Portela is made entirely from Godello grown across eleven small plots at around 500 metres, on vines over 50 years old rooted in slate. Slate drains sharply and warms in the sun, pushing old vines with low yields to ripen fully while the altitude and Atlantic influence keep the fruit fresh, which is why this comes in richer and rounder than a coastal white yet holds its line. The grapes are hand harvested and the wine spends six months in oak barrels. Barrel ageing on the lees adds texture through mannoprotein release and lets a measured amount of oxygen soften and broaden the palate, framing rather than covering the fruit. The colour is bright straw gold. The nose shows white peach, apricot and pear with citrus peel and a nutty, honeyed edge, and the palate is full and textured, its stony minerality and citrus acidity carrying a long finish. Serve it at around 10 to 12 degrees.

Additional information
The weight and texture make this a fine match for meaty fish such as turbot, monkfish and grilled tuna, as well as scallops and lobster in butter. It also works with roast chicken and mild pork dishes, where the stone fruit and mineral acidity keep everything fresh.
