Description
Petruskellerei is a family winery in the hills around Bolzano in Alto Adige, the German-speaking north of Italy, working historic vines on steep slopes above the town. This Gewürztraminer comes from a two-hectare vineyard at around 400 metres, where altitude and cool mountain nights preserve the acidity and aromatic detail that this heady grape can otherwise lose. Gewürztraminer is the aromatic signature of the wider Tramin area, and on these hillside soils it keeps its perfume without turning heavy. After fermentation the wine rests on its fine lees, a contact period that broadens the texture and gives the palate weight to carry the intense aromatics. Expect a deep golden colour, a nose of rose, apricot and white peach with a lift of ginger spice, and a full-bodied, dry to off-dry palate with a honeyed note and a long, spiced finish. The mountain acidity keeps that richness in balance. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees in a larger white wine glass.
