Petroni Aperitivo

Petroni Aperitivo is a spritz-inspired aperitif from Vermutería de Galicia, in Spain's Atlantic northwest. Where a classic vermouth leans on herbs and sweet spice, this is built for freshness, macerating more than ten botanicals, some of them native to Galicia, with citrus fruits such as orange driving the character and wormwood holding the bitter line that ties it to the vermouth family. The lighter 11 percent strength sets it apart from standard vermouth and points to its role as a long, low-alcohol drink rather than a fortified sipper. The pale colour reflects the fresh, unaged style. The nose leads with the citrus freshness of orange over subtle herbal notes. The palate is refreshing, with a pleasant minty nuance harmonised against citrus and a gentle bitterness, made to be lengthened and chilled rather than drunk neat. Serve over plenty of ice topped with soda or tonic and a slice of orange, as a spritz before a meal or through a warm afternoon.
