Description
Perola bottled this single cask Beenleigh under the Bellamy's Reserve label, distilled in 2006 and aged seventeen years. Beenleigh's molasses spirit has a famously idiosyncratic Australian character, and this full proof release pushes that identity hard.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak and bottled at a towering 67.6% with no added sugar, it is a dry, high impact rum built around bright citrus, eucalyptus and ginger, with honey and smoky touches lifting the dry oak frame. The finish runs long, astringent and spicy, and the texture is oily once the alcohol settles. This is not a casual pour. Given plenty of time to breathe it opens into something layered and distinctive, best suited to drinkers who relish powerful, unconventional rums.
