Description
Mar de Rosa is a Garnacha rosé from Perelada, the benchmark estate of DO Empordà in northern Catalonia and a project with more than 100 years of history. The defining feature of this corner of Catalonia is the tramuntana, the cold dry wind that sweeps down from the north. It dries the vineyards after rain, limits disease and keeps the canopy healthy without chemical intervention, while the constant air movement and the maritime setting preserve freshness and bring a saline edge to the wine. Garnacha is the classic red grape of the region, and for rosé it is picked earlier and given only brief skin contact to keep the colour pale and the alcohol moderate, here a restrained 12.5 percent. Fermentation at controlled low temperature protects the delicate aromatics. The colour is a pale pink, with fresh, intense aromas of raspberry and ripe strawberry lifted by a subtle floral note of lavender and white flowers, and a touch of white peach. The palate is dry, light and crisp, with a clean, saline finish that reflects the wind-swept coastal site. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees.
