Perelada Jardins Blanc is a young Empordà white from Castillo de Perelada in Catalonia, blending Macabeo, Sauvignon Blanc and two Garnachas. It leads with pineapple, ripe pear and citrus over a fresh, light body.
Description
Perelada Jardins Blanc is made by Castillo de Perelada in D.O. Empordà, in the north east corner of Catalonia near the French border. The blend of Macabeo, Sauvignon Blanc, Garnacha Roja and Garnacha Blanca draws on both local varieties and international grapes, giving the wine ripe fruit alongside aromatic lift. Empordà is shaped by the tramuntana, the strong dry northerly wind that keeps the vineyards healthy and moderates ripening, while the Mediterranean climate and warm days push the fruit towards a riper, more tropical register. The wine is made in a fresh, unoaked style, with cool fermentation in stainless steel to preserve aroma and hold the fruit bright. The colour is pale straw. The nose is fruit driven, with pineapple and ripe pear alongside melon, white peach and a citrus edge of fresh lemon, framed by white flowers. The palate is light and easy, with soft acidity and a clean, gently fruity finish. Serve it well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees in a standard white wine glass. It works with white fish, shellfish, fresh salads and lighter poultry dishes, and makes a good all-purpose summer white.
