Description
Perelada Finca Malaveïna is a red from D.O. Empordà in Catalonia, made by Perelada from a Bordeaux-leaning blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc with Garnacha and Syrah. Empordà lies in the north-east corner of Catalonia between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean, swept by the cold, dry Tramontana wind that keeps the fruit healthy and concentrated. The vineyards sit on poor stony soils that limit yields and deepen the fruit, while warm days and the maritime influence ripen the Cabernet and Merlot fully and the Syrah and Garnacha add warmth and spice. The wine ages 21 months in French oak, a long élevage that knits the tannins through slow oxygen exchange and layers in toast, vanilla and spice without covering the fruit. The colour is deep ruby. The nose shows ripe plum and black cherry, black pepper, vanilla and a tobacco, toasted note. The palate is full and structured at 14.5 percent, the tannins firm and fine-grained, with a savoury herbal depth and a long spiced finish. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees, decanted. Built for grilled and roast red meat.
