Description
Perelada makes this Empordà white from Finca La Garriga, a forty-one hectare estate in Girona whose oldest plot was planted in 1950 and serves the winery as a research site for grape and rootstock trials. The blend is led by Chardonnay with white Cariñena, grown on soils where clay meets sand and gravel; the clay holds moisture through the warm Mediterranean summer while the sand and gravel give drainage and keep the wine fresh, and the old vines contribute depth and balance. The Empordà sits between the Pyrenees and the sea, and the cold Tramuntana wind keeps the vineyard dry and healthy and slows ripening, preserving acidity in a sunny climate. After fermentation the wine spends four months in French oak barrels, a restrained élevage that adds a light frame and gentle texture from the lees without covering the fruit. The colour is golden yellow. The nose is fresh and open, with green apple, pear and white peach over white flowers and a subtle vanilla lift. The palate is medium-bodied and balanced, its ripe orchard fruit carried by clean acidity and a touch of oak spice into a long finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees.

Additional information
Serve with roast chicken, baked salmon or grilled tuna, where the light oak and ripe fruit match the dish. The rounded texture also suits roasted root vegetables and mushroom dishes.
