Description
Perelada has made wine in the D.O. Emporda of Catalonia since 1923, close to the coast in the north-east corner of Spain. Collection Blanc is a blend of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, with the Chardonnay giving orchard and tropical fruit and body, and the Sauvignon Blanc adding citrus and green freshness. The warm Mediterranean climate near the sea ripens the fruit fully, which is why the wine leans towards riper tropical fruit while the coastal breezes and cool fermentation keep it fresh. Fermentation runs at a controlled sixteen degrees to preserve the aromatics, and around eight percent of the blend ages in new acacia barrels, which add a subtle spice and a little texture without the vanilla of oak. In the glass it is bright straw yellow, with pineapple, mango, white peach and citrus over a light floral note. The palate is fresh and medium bodied, with ripe orchard and tropical fruit, a clean citrus line and a soft, balanced finish. This is an easy, food-friendly white to drink young. Serve at around 10 degrees in a white-wine glass.
