Pequeñas Puertas La Peli is an organic Navarra Garnacha from Proyecto Zorzal, made with Argentine winemaker Matias Michelini. Aged 15 months in 500 litre French oak, it is light and fresh, with red berry, cherry and an unusually bright, floral lift.
Description
Proyecto Zorzal is a family winery run by the Sanz brothers in Navarra, who developed this line with the Argentine winemaker Matias Michelini. This wine is made from Garnacha grown in the DO Navarra, a region whose continental climate and stony, often limestone soils give the grape freshness and lift rather than weight. The approach here is deliberately light: fresh, early picking and gentle handling keep the alcohol modest at 13 percent and emphasise aromatics over extraction, which is why the source notes describe a nose closer to a white wine. The wine ages 15 months in large 500 litre French oak barrels, where the bigger format and lower wood-to-wine ratio allow slow oxygen exchange to soften the texture without adding obvious oak flavour. The colour is bright, light ruby. The nose is fresh and floral, with red berries, cherry, green apple and white flowers over a faint peppery note. The palate is light and juicy, with fine, supple tannins, vivid acidity and a clean, mineral finish. Serve lightly chilled at 13 to 14 degrees. It is a flexible food wine for lighter dishes.
