Description
Pepe Mendoza Casa Agrícola Pureza comes from Pepe Mendoza's personal project in Alicante, on Spain's Mediterranean coast, built around the terroir and native varieties of the region. The wine is made from Moscatel de Alejandría, a grape suited to the warm, dry coastal climate, where sea breezes temper the heat and keep the aromatic fruit fresh. The vineyards are farmed with respect for the land. After a brief skin contact, the wine spends two months on its lees in clay jar. The short maceration gives gentle texture and a touch of grip without heavy tannin or oxidation, while the lees ageing adds body and a fine savoury depth, the periodic stirring of the dead yeast cells lending roundness to a wine kept fresh and pure in style. The colour is light amber. The nose shows apricot, orange peel, white peach and white flowers, with a Mediterranean herbal lift. The palate is dry and textured, the saline freshness and gentle skin grip framing the stone fruit through a clean, herbal finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees.
