Pepe Mendoza is a Mediterranean specialist in Alicante. This biodynamic blend of Macabeo, Merseguera, Viognier and Moscatel is aromatic and floral, showing white flowers, white peach and citrus with a fresh saline edge.
Description
Pepe Mendoza runs his own project, Casa Agrícola, in the Alicante region after twenty-five years as winemaker for the Enrique Mendoza estate. His focus is on Mediterranean grapes, organic and biodynamic farming, and small productions with a clear regional character. This white blends Macabeo and Merseguera, two local varieties, with Viognier and aromatic Moscatel de Alejandría. The vineyards sit in a warm Mediterranean climate tempered by proximity to the sea, which brings cooling breezes that hold on to acidity and aromatic freshness. The Moscatel and Viognier drive the perfume, while Macabeo and Merseguera add body and a saline, mineral base. Biodynamic farming keeps the vines worked without synthetic inputs, letting site and grape lead. The wine is pale gold, with an expressive nose of white flowers, white peach and orange peel lifted by a floral, grapey aromatic tone. The palate is fresh and balanced, dry despite the aromatic fruit, with melon and citrus and a clean saline finish. Serve it at 9 to 11 degrees with grilled fish, roast chicken or lightly spiced dishes.
