Description
Pedro Parra is a soil consultant turned winemaker who worked with wineries around the world for more than fifteen years before setting up his own project in his home city of Concepcion, a pioneer of the New Chile movement. Hub is a Cinsault from the Itata Valley in the south, made from old bush vines planted on decomposed granite. The granite gives the wine its tension and stony, savoury signature, while the cool, dry-farmed conditions and low yields concentrate flavour without adding weight. Vinification is low intervention, with the wine raised in concrete rather than oak, so the fruit stays pure and fresh and the concrete lends a gentle roundness of texture without wood flavour. The colour is a light, clear ruby. The nose shows red berries, cherry, dried herbs and an earthy, mineral note, while the palate is light bodied and savoury, with fine tannin, bright acidity and a stony finish. Serve at 14 to 15 degrees, with a light chill in warm weather. It suits roast chicken, pork and mushroom dishes.
