Description
Pazo Torre Penelas is a project the Torres family began in 2012 in the Salnes Valley, the coastal heart of Rias Baixas in Galicia. This Blanco Granito is made from Albarino, the region's signature grape, grown on the granite soils that give the wine its name. The Atlantic climate here is cool and wet, with granite bedrock that drains well and lends a stony, saline quality, while sea air keeps the acidity high and the fruit fresh. After fermentation the wine is aged on its lees, the spent yeast cells, which are kept in contact with the wine to add texture and a subtle savoury depth. This lees ageing broadens the mid-palate and softens the naturally high acidity without hiding the fruit. The wine is pale with green tints, showing lemon, green apple and white peach on the nose over a clear saline, stony note. The palate is crisp and dry, with citrus and orchard fruit carried by bright acidity and a long, mineral finish. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees.
