Lagar de Cervera, La Rioja Alta’s Galician estate, blends Albarino with Caino Blanco, Loureiro and Treixadura for this young Rias Baixas style white. Expect white peach, lemon and floral aromatics with a fresh, saline finish.
Description
Lagar de Cervera is the Galician project of La Rioja Alta, which acquired this small winery in the Fornelos area of Pontevedra in 1998 to pursue white wines from the Atlantic north west of Spain. Pazo de Seoane is its fresh, young field blend, built around Albarino with Caino Blanco, Loureiro and Treixadura, the classic white grapes of the region. Galicia's cool, wet Atlantic climate and its granite and sandy soils are what shape this style, holding acidity high and giving the wine a saline, mineral lift. This is an unoaked, early drinking white made to capture primary fruit and aromatic freshness. The four grape blend broadens the aromatics, with Loureiro adding floral lift, Treixadura giving body and Caino Blanco sharpening the acidity alongside the Albarino core. It pours a pale straw, with white peach, lemon and pear on the nose over white flowers. The palate is crisp and juicy, with fresh citrus and stone fruit and a clean, saline finish. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees. It works as an aperitif and with the shellfish and grilled fish of the region.
