Description
Pazo da Sinsela is a Galician estate in Spain's cool Atlantic northwest, its wines shaped by the outlook of winemakers Rodrigo Méndez and Raúl Pérez. This is the estate's classic Albariño, grown on granite and sandy soils in a maritime climate where high rainfall and sea breezes keep the fruit fresh and the acidity firm. The wine spends around twelve months in large old foudres rather than small barrels, an ageing that lets it settle on its lees and gain a gentle texture and savoury depth while the size and age of the vessels mean the wood adds almost no flavour, keeping the focus on grape and site. It pours pale lemon with a green tint, showing green orchard fruit, citrus and a herbal edge over white flowers. The palate is crisp, direct and expressive, distinctly Atlantic in feel, with vibrant acidity and a sea salt minerality running through a refreshing mid palate and finish. It is precise and food friendly. Serve it well chilled at around 9 to 11 degrees.
