Patrón Extra Añejo is the most mature core expression in the range, aged for over three years in American oak barrels. Deep, structured, and contemplative, it layers cooked agave with oak spice, vanilla, and dark sweetness while retaining balance and clarity. Bottled at 40% ABV, it represents the furthest extension of Patrón’s traditional ageing philosophy.

Description
Patrón Extra Añejo was introduced following the formal recognition of the Extra Añejo category in 2006, marking a new chapter in the brand’s long-term vision for tequila maturation. Where El Alto explores complexity through blending, Extra Añejo follows the classical route: time, patience, and controlled oak influence.
As with every Patrón tequila, production begins with Blue Weber agave from Los Altos, slow-cooked in stone and brick ovens to develop cooked agave sweetness and depth. After tahona and roller mill extraction, open fermentation and double distillation in copper pot stills create a structured base spirit capable of extended ageing.
The tequila is aged for more than three years in American oak barrels, allowing oxidation and wood influence to develop gradually. This prolonged maturation deepens flavour and texture while avoiding excessive tannin or bitterness, maintaining the balance that defines the Patrón house style.
Aromatically, Patrón Extra Añejo delivers cooked agave, vanilla, caramel, toasted oak, and gentle spice. The palate is rich and layered, with warmth and depth carried by a long, smooth finish. Bottled at 40% ABV, it stands as the most contemplative expression in the core range, not designed for immediacy, but for slow enjoyment and reflection.
