Description
Parvus Chardonnay comes from the DO Alella, made near Tiana, in the hills behind Barcelona, from organically farmed fruit. The vineyards sit on sauló, a distinctive pale, sandy soil of decomposed granite that drains freely and reflects light, keeping the vines cool at the root and lending the wine a light, mineral freshness close to the Mediterranean. The grapes are macerated with their skins to draw more aroma, then lightly pressed to take the free run juice, which is the gentlest, cleanest fraction. The wine spends three months in French oak from Allier, a short, restrained ageing that adds a little texture and a light vanilla note without covering the fruit. The result is fresh and balanced rather than heavily oaked. The colour is pale gold. The nose shows white peach, melon and pear with green apple and citrus peel over a faint vanilla lift. The palate is medium bodied and dry, the fruit ripe but held by clean acidity, the finish fresh and stony. Serve at 10 to 11 degrees in a white wine glass.
