Sara i René Viticultors make Partida Pedrer in Priorat from organic Garnacha, naturally aged in concrete. The wine shows ripe red and dark fruit over the region’s mineral, savoury character, with soft, fresh structure.
Description
Partida Pedrer comes from Sara i René Viticultors in Priorat, a winemaking couple who inherited the knowledge of two families central to the region's revival. It is made from organically grown Garnacha and aged naturally in concrete tank. Priorat's defining feature is its licorella, the slate and quartzite soils that force the vines to root deep for water and lend the wines their mineral, savoury depth and concentration. Concrete ageing adds no oak character and lets the wine settle gently while keeping its fresh fruit and the imprint of the site, in keeping with a natural, low-intervention approach. The colour is deep ruby. The nose shows ripe raspberry and plum over crushed stone, thyme, black pepper and a touch of liquorice. The palate is full bodied yet supple, with ripe tannins, bright acidity and a long, mineral finish that reflects the slate. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees, decanted briefly. It pairs well with roast lamb, grilled beef and earthy mushroom dishes.
