Partida Creus is a natural-wine project in Bonastre, Tarragona, and this red revives the local Trepat grape. Made with minimal intervention at 11 percent, it is light and fresh, with bright red cherry, raspberry and a savoury, herbal lift.
Description
Partida Creus Trepat is a natural red from Catalonia made by Antonella Gerosa and Massimo Marchiori at their winery in Bonastre, in the Baix Penedès. The couple farm small plots of old, recovered vines with narrow rows, working in the Slow Food spirit with minimal intervention in vineyard and cellar. Trepat is a native Catalan variety, traditionally used in rosé and sparkling wine and valued for its light colour, low alcohol and bright acidity. Grown on the warm but breezy hills inland from the Tarragona coast, on poor, stony soils, it ripens to gentle red fruit while keeping freshness. The wine is made naturally, with native yeasts, gentle extraction and little or no added sulphur, so the fruit and the place lead rather than oak or technique. It is pale ruby, showing aromas of fresh red cherry, raspberry and red currant over a savoury, faintly herbal note. The palate is light bodied and fresh at 11 percent, with crisp acidity, fine, delicate tannin and a clean, savoury finish. Serve lightly chilled at 13 to 14 degrees. It suits roast pork, chicken and lighter vegetable and mushroom dishes.
