Description
Parés Baltà has farmed in Penedès for generations and works its vineyards biodynamically. Mas Petit blends Garnacha with Sumoll, an indigenous Catalan variety prized for its bright acidity and red-fruited character. The Mediterranean climate of inland Penedès is mild and warm, while the calcareous soils common to the area help retain freshness in the finished wine. This is a young red made for early drinking, so the focus is on preserving primary fruit rather than developing complexity in wood. Vinified to keep that freshness, it shows little or no oak influence and keeps its vivid colour and aromatics. The wine is bright in the glass and very fruity on the nose, with juicy red cherry and raspberry lifted by a subtle Mediterranean herb note. The palate is fresh, light and energetic, with soft tannin and lively acidity carrying a clean, easy finish. Farming is biodynamic, organic and the wine is vegan. Serve at 14 to 15 degrees, lightly chilled if you prefer, in a standard glass and with no need to decant. It suits charcuterie, roast chicken, grilled vegetables and tomato based dishes.
