A young Guadeloupe agricole from Papa Rouyo, pressed from fresh sugar cane juice, distilled on a pot still and rested three years in ex-Port casks before bottling at a firm 44.4 percent.
Description
Papa Rouyo is a young Guadeloupe estate working in the agricole tradition, distilling from fresh pressed sugar cane juice rather than molasses. This Tanmpo carries a 2021 vintage, three years in cask and an ex-Port finish, an unusual choice for cane juice rum that points toward red fruit and a touch of sweetness wrapped around a dry spirit.
Pot still distillation tends to give a fuller, more textured agricole than the lighter creole column style. Expect the grassy, peppery cane character typical of Guadeloupe to sit alongside the wine cask influence, with notes of baked fruit and toasted oak in the house style. Bottled unsweetened at 44.4 percent, it leans dry and structured rather than soft.
