A three-year agricole from Papa Rouyo in Guadeloupe, young cane juice rested in ex-bourbon oak, leaning into raisin, brown sugar and caramel with nutmeg and a peppery, young-wood finish at 44.4%.
Description
Papa Rouyo is a younger Guadeloupe distillery working from fresh-pressed sugar-cane juice, and Tanmpo is a 2021 distillate given three years in cask. As Guadeloupe agricole it sits under the IGP, and the short ageing means it keeps one foot in the bright, vegetal world of a blanc while picking up early wood.
The ex-bourbon barrel shows clearly for its age, bringing dried fruit, raisin, brown sugar and caramel to the nose, then raisin, nutmeg and a green, young-wood note on the palate. The finish carries orange peel, black pepper and that fresh oak grip. At 44.4% it is approachable and lightly spiced, a transparent look at how a cane-juice rum behaves in its first years of ageing, honest about its youth rather than dressed up beyond it.
