Panduro Vinos makes this Monastrell-led red in the D.O. Jumilla, the warm inland Murcia region known for the variety. Farmed organically and aged six months in 500-litre French oak, it shows ripe plum, blackberry and a warm, peppery finish.
Description
Panduro Tinto comes from the D.O. Jumilla, a small wine region in the northwest of Murcia in southeastern Spain, long associated with Monastrell. The grape, the same as Mourvèdre, ripens late and thrives in Jumilla's hot, dry continental climate and poor limestone soils, producing dark, warm and structured reds. This wine is built on Monastrell with other red varieties and is farmed organically, with vegan production. It ages six months in 500-litre French oak barrels, a larger format than the standard 225-litre barrique, so the slower oxygen exchange rounds the tannins and adds spice while keeping the ripe fruit prominent. The colour is deep purple-red. The nose shows ripe plum, blackberry and red berries with liquorice and clove. The palate is full bodied with warm alcohol, ripe rounded tannins and a peppery, earthy finish. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees and decant young bottles briefly. It suits grilled and stewed meats and richly spiced dishes.
