Panduro works with the native Callet and Manto Negro grapes of Mallorca, farming organically and making this red as a natural, vegan wine. At 11.5 percent and aged six months in oak, it is light and fragrant, with red berries and a herbal edge.
Description
Panduro is a small project in Colonia de Sant Pere, in the northeast of Mallorca, run by friends Ibon Apezteguia and Henrik Falk and dedicated to the island's native grapes. Quarterada is built on Callet and Manto Negro, two Balearic varieties that ripen at low alcohol and keep a fresh, light-bodied character under the Mediterranean climate of mild winters and warm, dry summers. The wine is farmed organically and made as a natural, vegan wine, with minimal intervention in the cellar so the fruit and the island terroir come through clearly. It spends six months in oak barrels, enough to settle tannin and lend light structure while keeping the focus on the grapes. The colour is a pale to medium ruby. The nose shows red berries, cherry and red currant with dried herbs and a hint of white flowers. The palate is light bodied at 11.5 percent, with soft tannin, lively acidity and a fresh, earthy finish. Serve lightly chilled at around 14 to 15 degrees in a standard glass. It suits lighter dishes and warm-weather meals.
