Description
Palacios Remondo is the family winery of Álvaro Palacios, in the town of Alfaro in Rioja Oriental, the warm eastern end of the Rioja region. Palacios has been central to raising the profile of this subregion, where old Garnacha thrives. This organic red is led by Garnacha Tinta, a grape suited to the warm, dry conditions, with the vineyards set on the alluvial and clay soils of the Ebro valley. Warm days ripen the fruit while cooler nights hold acidity, giving a wine that is generous in fruit yet fresh in style. The wine is aged in oak, where slow oxygen exchange softens the tannins and adds gentle spice without dominating the fruit. The result is light and easy in character. The colour is bright cherry red. The nose leads with strawberry, red cherry and a touch of white peach, lifted by dried herbs, pepper and a floral note. The palate is light to medium bodied, supple and juicy, the tannins soft and the acidity keeping it fresh through the finish. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees, lightly chilled if you wish. It works with lighter meats and fresh dishes.
