Palacios Remondo Propiedad is a Garnacha from Alfaro in Rioja Baja, made by the family of Alvaro Palacios. Aged eighteen months in large foudres, it shows ripe red and black fruit, floral lift and an earthy, cocoa depth.
Description
Palacios Remondo Propiedad is made by Bodegas Palacios Remondo in Alfaro, in the warmer Rioja Baja, the family winery now run by Alvaro and Chelo Palacios. The site has a clear Mediterranean influence, and the Garnacha is grown on stony, calcareous and clay soils that suit this late ripening variety. The warmth ripens the Garnacha fully while the poor soils restrain vigour and concentrate the fruit, giving ripe red and black berry character with a floral, almost wild edge. The wine is aged eighteen months in foudres, the large old oak vats allowing gentle oxygen exchange that builds texture and softens tannin without imposing the vanilla and toast of small new barrels, so the fruit and the herbal lift stay clean and defined. The colour is bright cherry. The nose shows delicate floral aromas over ripe red and black fruit, with earthy and cocoa nuances. The palate is juicy and balanced, with supple tannin, fresh acidity and an elegant, savoury finish. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees. It suits roast lamb, grilled meat and earthy vegetable dishes.
