Grapefruit and lemon with a thread of English mint and a faintly saline edge mark this Padre Azul Blanco, a 100% agave tequila made at Tres Mujeres in the Amatitan valley and bottled unaged at 40% to show the agave.
Description
Padre Azul Blanco is a 100% Blue Weber tequila made at the Tres Mujeres distillery in the Amatitan valley, part of the lowland Valles zone of Jalisco. The brand was founded by Austrian Hans Peter Eder in partnership with master distillers from Jalisco, and is as known for its heavy skull topped stopper and hand laced leather sleeve as for the liquid inside.
Bottled unaged at 40% ABV, this blanco leans on its lowland agave with grapefruit and lemon on the nose and a trace of English mint, while the palate turns lightly saline and lingers, emphasising a forward, textural bouquet. The soft, complex feel comes from the spirit rather than from wood, since a blanco is rested little or not at all and shows the cooked agave and still most directly.
