Paco & Lola Nº12 is an Albariño from D.O. Rías Baixas, made by a large O Salnés cooperative from vineyards near the Atlantic. Fermented in stainless steel, it shows lemon and mandarin, white flowers and a saline, citrus-fresh finish.
Description
Paco & Lola is a cooperative winery founded in 2005 in Meaño, in the O Salnés heart of D.O. Rías Baixas, working over 200 hectares split across more than 1,800 small plots. Rías Baixas sits on Galicia's Atlantic coast, where high rainfall and cool ocean air slow ripening and preserve acidity, and the sandy granite soils give Albariño its saline lift. The vines are trained high on granite posts, the traditional parral system that lifts the canopy off the damp ground and improves airflow and light. This bottling is fermented and held in stainless steel to keep the fruit primary and the aromatics clean, with no oak to mask the grape. The colour is pale lemon with green tints. The nose is aromatic and direct, with lemon, mandarin and white flowers over a touch of acacia and orchard fruit. The palate is crisp and dry, carried by fresh acidity, with citrus, green apple and white peach and a mineral, faintly salty finish typical of the appellation. Serve well chilled at around 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass. It suits fresh shellfish, grilled white fish and green salads.
