Description
Paco & Lola is a large cooperative in Galicia, run by more than 430 members farming over 2,000 small plots, and this Godello comes from the D.O. Valdeorras in the northwest of Spain. Valdeorras sits inland on slate and granite soils, at altitude, where cool nights and warm days give Godello both ripeness and freshness. The grape is naturally full bodied for a white, with good structure and a broad mid palate. This wine spent three months in stainless steel tanks, a method that keeps the fruit clean and preserves the variety's stone fruit character without any oak. The colour is straw yellow with faint green tints. The nose shows ripe pear, white peach and melon, with a light floral lift and a mineral undertone from the schistous soils. The palate is round and balanced, with orchard and stone fruit carried by fresh acidity and a clean, faintly saline finish. The texture has more weight than most Galician whites, which makes it flexible with food. Serve it at 9 to 11 degrees in a white wine glass.
