A young, very high strength Barbados rum from Opportune 1791, column distilled and aged 3 years in ex-bourbon oak at a fiery 63%, unsweetened, a bold cask strength take on the island style.
Description
Opportune 1791 is a French-facing bottler, and this F.W.I aged rum is a young, intense Barbados expression, column distilled and matured just 3 years in ex-bourbon oak before being bottled at a powerful 63% without added sugar. Barbados normally trades on balance and roundness, but at three years and over 60% this is a bolder, brighter and more spirit-forward proposition. In the island house style expect toffee, brown sugar, banana and vanilla notes, here lifted and sharpened by the high proof and the youthful oak rather than softened by long ageing. A cask strength, dry Bajan rum aimed at drinkers who want their Barbados loud and energetic, well suited to a few drops of water.
