Description
Olmeca Altos is the highland line from Olmeca, made in Jalisco and owned by Pernod Ricard. It is a 100% agave tequila drawn from Blue Weber grown above 2000 metres on the cool, iron rich red clay of Los Altos, the conditions that tend to give larger, sweeter piñas and a rounder, fruitier style. This reposado is rested for six to eight months in ex bourbon casks.
The extra time in American oak builds a soft, silky body and layers vanilla and honey over the cooked agave, with toasted oak and a clear thread of lemon keeping it bright. It lands light footed and gentle rather than heavily wooded, the highland sweetness and citrus balanced against the barrel, finishing harmonious and easy. Bottled at 38%.
