A sweet Dominican solera from Oliver & Oliver, Ron Quorhum 12 pours creme brulee, honey, caramel and red fruit over a smooth 40% body, an easy dessert style sipper that trades depth for soft, gentle sweetness.

Description
Oliver & Oliver is a Dominican Republic blender behind several soft Spanish-style labels, and Ron Quorhum 12 is one of its sweeter, more dessert leaning offerings. Built from molasses on a column still and assembled as a solera, its number reflects the oldest component in the blend rather than a flat age, so it reads as a young rum carrying a trace of something older, in the fractional-blending tradition borrowed from sherry.
The nose is inviting with honey, creme brulee and caramel, the palate brings caramel, sweetness, a woody edge and soft confectionery, and the finish carries barrel, licorice and a sugary note. It drinks smooth and clearly sweet, an easy sipper neat, over ice or with juice, and a comfortable dessert pour. The sweetness is part of the style rather than the cask alone, so it is fair to say this leans toward soft, easy pleasure over depth, a familiar fit for drinkers who enjoy Diplomatico style or Zacapa style rons.
