An eight-year Dominican ron from Oliver & Oliver’s Puntacana Club, soft and low-strength at 37.5%, a light Spanish-style sipper of dried figs over gentle young and seasoned oak, an inexpensive everyday pour that leans mild and comfortably mixable.
Description
Oliver & Oliver, the Dominican blending house behind Cubaney and Opthimus, bottles this eight-year Puntacana Club. It belongs to the soft, light end of the Spanish style, a mild Dominican aged ron built for easy sipping and casual mixing rather than intensity.
The spirit is column-distilled molasses rum matured in ex-bourbon barrels, and at 37.5% it is deliberately gentle. The nose is led by young and seasoned oak, with dried figs giving the palate a quiet sweetness. There is a faint, classic light-rum character here, free of harsh edges. Honestly assessed, this is an inexpensive, everyday Dominican that leans mild and a little simple, milder still than its stablemates, pleasant neat for undemanding moments and comfortable in a cocktail when something soft is wanted.
