Puntacana Club Esplendido is an Oliver & Oliver bottling under the Puntacana Club name, sitting at the gentle, accessible end of the Dominican house's range. It is molasses spirit run off a column still and matured in the soft Spanish idiom, the kind of rum built for easy drinking rather than challenge.
The nose shows sugar, caramel, fruity and chocolate notes, the palate runs caramel, vanilla, pepper and a hint of licorice, and the finish stays on brown sugar and sweetness. As with most rums in this bracket it carries a light sweetness, though not an overpowering one, with vanilla and chocolate the lead flavours.
