Oliver Conti makes this unoaked Empordà rosat from Garnacha in northeast Catalonia. Made without ageing for early drinking, it offers a fresh dry introduction to the region, with red berry, cherry and a soft floral lift.
Description
Oliver Conti is an estate in the D.O. Empordà, the northeastern corner of Catalonia where the Pyrenees meet the Mediterranean. This rosat is made from Garnacha without any ageing, a youthful wine intended as an easy introduction to the region. Empordà is shaped by the strong Tramuntana wind that blows down from the mountains, ventilating the vines, keeping them healthy and concentrating the fruit, while the maritime influence moderates the warm summers. Garnacha suits this terroir well, giving ripe red fruit and a soft texture. The grapes are pressed with brief skin contact for a pale colour and fermented cool in stainless steel, which keeps the fresh fruit and floral aromatics intact and gives a dry unoaked style for drinking young. The colour is a pale pink. The nose shows fresh strawberry, red cherry and white flowers with a citrus lift. The palate is dry and fresh, with pear and a soft red fruit core carried by clean acidity to a clean finish. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees as an aperitif or with light Mediterranean dishes.
