Oliver Conti blends Macabeo, Sauvignon Blanc, Moscatel de Alejandria and Garnacha Blanca in this Emporda white. The Muscat and Sauvignon lift it with white flowers, elderflower and stone fruit over a Mediterranean freshness.
Description
Jordi Oliver Conti is a long standing advocate for the wines of the D.O. Emporda in the north east corner of Catalonia, where the vineyards sit close to the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees. This white is a blend of Macabeo, Sauvignon Blanc, Moscatel de Alejandria and Garnacha Blanca. The region is marked by the tramontana, the strong dry north wind that keeps the vines healthy and cuts the risk of disease, allowing the estate to reduce its use of treatments in the vineyard. Macabeo and Garnacha Blanca give the wine body and a soft citrus core, while Moscatel de Alejandria brings its grapey, floral perfume and Sauvignon Blanc sharpens the aromatics and the acidity. The result is an aromatic and fruit driven white made to be drunk young for its freshness. It shows a pale straw colour, with white flowers, elderflower and white peach on the nose lifted by a floral, musky note from the Moscatel. The palate is fresh and lightly aromatic, with melon and citrus and a clean, dry finish. Serve chilled at 8 to 10 degrees. It works well as an aperitif and with lighter fish and salads.
