Description
Old St. Croix A.H. Riise Pharmacy Liquorice Shot is a Caribbean liquorice speciality from A.H. Riise, drawing on the rich history of the apothecary and distiller Albert Heinrich Riise and the historic recipes of his pharmacy in what were then the Danish West Indies. It combines intense liquorice with a pleasantly smooth, sweet and spicy character, a shot style liqueur that sits apart from the brand's fruit and rum bottlings. It is bottled at 18%.
The nose is intense liquorice, herbs, aniseed and a subtle caramel, the palate full bodied and smooth with pronounced liquorice, sweet wood, herbs and a subtle sweetness, finishing long, spicy and harmonious with a characteristic liquorice note. Behind the bar it brings sweet liquorice and aniseed with a herbal backbone, made for the ice cold shot but equally a liquorice modifier in an anise forward serve. It pairs particularly well with dark chocolate, brownies, chocolate mousse, vanilla ice cream or liquorice desserts. Serve it well chilled or straight from the freezer as a shot, where the cold sharpens the liquorice.
