Description
From Decadent Drinks comes this Old Pulteney, aged 11 year old, from 2013 and bottled at 53%. Just 227 bottles were filled. Old Pulteney was built in 1826 in Pulteneytown on Scotland's far northern shore; it still distils beside the sea at Wick. Old Pulteney is known the world over as the Maritime Malt.
The spirit was drawn off the flat topped wash still and boil ball spirit still that give the make its body, and matured by the shore, where sea air works into the wood. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, the backbone of the Pulteney style. Still young, the malt is clean and zesty with a saline tang. Coastal warehousing gives the malt its signature salty, maritime lift. It is one of the last true urban distilleries, set among the streets of Pulteneytown. Inver House has built its single malt range around the distillery since 1995. The honeyed, waxy core is the signature of the maritime malt of the far north.
At a full 53% it is intense. A salty maritime note sit alongside soft vanilla from the cask. It is rounded and deep, the maritime note woven in. A gently briny finish lingers warm. This is the seaside style that made the distillery's name.
