O'Donnell Moonshine Tough Nut is a hazelnut liqueur from the German brand O'Donnell Moonshine, which specialises in modern interpretations of moonshine spirits bottled in its striking mason jar, the brand's unmistakable trademark drawn from the American moonshine tradition. This expression sets a robust moonshine distillate against pronounced hazelnut, accompanied by caramel, subtle chocolate and nougat with a faint whisky character beneath, a fuller, spirit forward take on the nut style. It is bottled at 25%.
The nose is hazelnut, caramel, fine chocolate and nougat with a subtle hint of whisky, the palate round, nutty and caramel like, smooth with chocolatey nuances and a whisky spice edge, finishing smooth, mild and slightly sweet with hazelnut and caramel. Behind the bar it works as a nutty body and dessert ingredient with a hint of spirit warmth, adding roasted hazelnut and caramel to a Nutty Russian, a hazelnut Espresso Martini or a stirred drink. It pairs superbly with chocolate and nut desserts such as brownies, hazelnut tarts, tiramisu or vanilla ice cream. Pour it over ice, or stir a measure into coffee.
