Description
Oddero Dolcetto d'Alba is a single-variety Dolcetto from Poderi e Cantine Oddero, the family winery in La Morra founded in 1878 and best known for Barolo. Dolcetto is Piedmont's everyday red, an early-ripening variety that gives deep colour, low acidity and soft tannins, so it is made to drink young rather than to age. The grapes come from vineyards in the Langhe hills, where calcareous soils and a continental climate give ripe fruit with a savoury base. Fermentation is followed by a short ageing without new oak, which keeps the wine fresh and focused on its fruit. Expect a dense purple colour, a nose of black cherry, plum and red berries, and a rounded, juicy palate with low acidity, gentle tannins and the faintly bitter almond note that is typical of the variety. The finish is clean and savoury with a touch of liquorice. Serve at 15 degrees, without decanting. It is a versatile everyday red for pork, roast poultry and tomato-based pasta.
